School!

School is starting next week. I'm going to stay homeschooled but we are still starting school when the others do. I started my writing 2 days ago and my spelling yesterday but the rest I will start on Monday. I already wrote a paper on The Middle Ages and I thought I did pretty good. I'll let you read it.

The Dark Ages

The Middle Ages is remembered for its intrepid knights, royal kings, and massive castles. But they were not glorious times. The Middle Ages began with the crumbling of the Western Roman Empire in the 400’s and 500’s. Some awful tribes of treacherous warriors stormed across Europe and seized its different parts. These barbarians were not civilized. They lived in tents, ate nasty raw food, and did not bathe. Boy, they must be fetid! They had no interest in arts and learning. They invaded the Roman lands and set up thee own kingdoms. The Roman culture, its law, art, and love of learning was lost. Some people called the times “The Dark Ages.”

Strong knights and colossal castles did not appear until the 900’s. By then, most of Western Europe had been divided into huge estates called manors. A few rich noblemen owned some estates and lived in terrific castles, but other people were poor and called serfs. They did not have great lives. They worked tiredly from sunup the sundown farming for the noblemen. They lived in almost dilapidated huts with mud walls, clay floors, and no doors. The food was scarce, disgusting garbage on the streets, and horrible diseases plagued villages. The average person lived to be 30 years old. Education and culture activity was almost forgotten. Life in the Middle Ages was filled with awful hardships.
